Collage as a Way of Seeing
MAy 1st- 2nd
Rocky Neck Art Colony
Gloucester, MA
In this in-person workshop, we will focus on shape, color and pattern, looking to the works of modern artists such as Picasso and Matisse as inspiration for our collages. Artist Caryl Hull Leavitt will go through the whole collaging process from painting papers, to assessing the qualities of the artwork we are looking at, to making our collages.
What a great way to see the "big shapes" we're always supposed to be looking for! Freedom and fun will be our guide. All levels of experience are welcomed.
Tablescapes: Observation and Interpretation
MARCH 29th
ConcordArt
37 Lexington Ave.
Concord, MA
In this one-day workshop, we will paint based on one tabletop set-up filled with an abundance of materials from which we can discover a variety of approaches and personal narratives. Exercises will vary from playing with shape and color as a way of seeing composition to cropping in and zooming out as a way of directing our focus so that each painter finds and expresses what is meaningful to them. With an emphasis on keeping it fast and loose, we will run through a series of small scale painting exercises without the pressure of yielding a finished painting. Bring paints of your choosing!
